Kim Johnson is an accomplished senior energy executive with more than 40 year track record and a broad base of experience in corporate governance, business and project development, marketing, risk management, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and transactional funding and the commercialization of energy technologies. Her areas of energy expertise include waste to energy, fuels, natural gas, electricity, renewables, energy storage, energy trading and risk management.

She has supported biofuel, biomass, and pyrolysis companies and worked with electric utilities to successfully create programs to test burn new alternative fuels. She was the key commercial member of a team that successfully negotiated an $650+ million EPC contract for a first of its kind project in 2017. Over the course of her career she has negotiated over 200 term gas sales contracts, 50 term gas supply contracts, 60 gas pipeline transportation contracts (firm and interruptible), 10+ agency agreements, 20+ term gas storage contracts, 30+ power purchase agreements, 10+ transmission and interconnection agreements, and 100+ term derivative and risk management contracts.

Ms. Johnson has been working with clean and renewable companies since 2005 and currently serves as the CEO of eBartonLLC, a consulting company she owns and operates and as Managing Partner of Gen2 LLC a company focused on developing waste to energy projects. She has served as Chief Commercial Officer of Mada Power, LLC an energy storage company and Executive Vice President of Riverbank Power a hydro developer. At Riverbank, she was involved in all aspects of the development and commercialization of the 7.2 MW, $23 million Dorena hydro project in Oregon which reached COD in December 2014. While at Riverbank, she formed a JV with EDF Renewable Energy where she served as a Director and as Project Manager of the Swan Lake Pumped Hydro project until it was sold to EDF.

Prior to working with clean and renewable technology companies, Ms. Johnson served as Chief Operating Officer of Tyr Energy Inc., a company she co-founded in 2002. Tyr Energy is an asset management firm which manages over $3.5 billion in energy assets. As a Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Tyr Energy she was instrumental in the company’s acquisitions and directed all aspects of its asset management and commercial activities. This included the purchase of 10% equity interests in the 672MW CCGT Lincoln Energy Center and the 795MW Green Country Energy Project CCGT. Ms. Johnson directed the team that provided asset management and commercial services for the 568 MW Liberty CCGT. She also managed the $60 million of construction completion for the 2400 MW Boston Generating project which had a capital cost of $1.3 billion and was completed on time and under budget.

Before co-founding Tyr Energy, Ms. Johnson served as Executive Vice President of Aquila, Inc., now Great Plains Resources, a major U.S. Investor Owned Utility. She led their efforts in energy joint ventures, partnerships and similar arrangements throughout North America, including the development high deliverability natural gas storage projects. She was instrumental in the development, financing and commercial restructuring of the 625 MW Aries CCGT and the acquisition, construction completion and commercialization of the 12 Bcf Lodi Gas Storage project. Aries is a $300 million project. Lodi Gas Storage is a $221 million project in Lodi California that Aquila acquired prior to its completion.

Prior to Aquila, Ms. Johnson enjoyed a 10-year career at Coral Energy/Catex Vitol, now Shell Energy North America. As Vice President of Shell Energy, she was responsible for natural gas sales to industrial customers, strategic alliances, supply, transportation, and storage operations. She also had responsibilities for physical and financial trading operations. Prior to Shell, she served as Vice President of Diamond Shamrock, now Valero.

Kim Johnson serves on the Board of Directors of Gen2, LLC, C6 WTE Ireland 1, an Irish company developing a waste to energy project in Tullamore, Ireland, and Mexico Power and Fuels, LLC, a joint venture pursuing waste to energy projects in Mexico. She also serves on the Advisory Board of Gen Tech PTD1, Gen2’s flagship project that converts waste plastic to ASTM D975 No.2 on road ultra-low sulphur diesel fuel and naphtha. She serves as a member of the National Coal Council at the request of the Secretary of Energy and has been a member since 2016. Ms. Johnson has been Vice Chair of several American Bar Association committees since 2015 and is the current Vice Chair of the Committee for Energy, Infrastructure, Siting and Reliability Committee. She has also served on the supply advisory committee for Edison Electric Institute, the U.S. electric utility’s lobbying organization.

She has a B.S. Economics from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
